BORN FOR WORKS
Every day, more than 1,000 children work as stone laborers alongside their parents in the field to collect stones at the Bholagonj stone quarry, located on the northeastern part of the India-Bangladesh border. It is one of the biggest stone quarry fields in Bangladesh. All collected stone goes to the merchant party. The average income of a stone laborer is less than 500 taka per day, approximately 6 US Dollars, and child laborers receive around 1 dollar per day. Children work in this stone quarry field to help their poor families. Uncontrolled Bholagonj stone extracting and crushing at Bholagonj have been posing a serious threat to the children’s health, their future, and the environment.
